Founded in 1930, the museum Dr. José Formosinho quickly developed into a multidisciplinary museum with valuable and unique collections. Its assets include archaeology, sacred art, history of Lagos, ethnography of the Algarve, painting, numismatics, mineralogy and overseas ethnography.
Entering the place is like embarking on a journey through the history of Lagos and the Algarve, on a route with a thematic approach related to moments of affirmation of the municipal and regional identity.
You will discover a set of works gathered by the Museum's founder, a scientific collection of rare and unique, often bizarre, pieces, a collection of works by artists participating in the Algarve Regional Congress (1915), a collection of palm, metal, basketwork , pottery, drawing, embroidery, lace and even sweets, the result of knowledge usually transmitted within the traditional family.
A place to visit for anyone interested in local history and traditions.
